Munich Young Leaders Gather in Tallinn for Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the Munich Young Leaders will take place this year from September 1-3 in Estonia's capital Tallinn. Since the Annual Meetings 2020 and 2021 had to be cancelled due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the MYL will be able to hold on-site and stimulating discussions on the most pressing security issues and seek viable solutions for the future in person. The Munich Young Leaders program is a joint project of the Munich Security Conference and the Körber Foundation.

The Munich Security Conference (MSC) and the Körber Foundation gather both Munich Young Leaders (MYL) alumni and the MYL of the current cohort in Tallinn to discuss current global challenges among themselves and with high-profile decision-makers and experts. Highlights of this year's three-day meeting include a conversation with Kaja Kallas, Prime Minister of Estonia, and a visit to a military base. In the midst of the Zeitenwende in European security policy triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it’s difficult to think of a more relevant backdrop for the discussions than Tallinn. Besides the war in Ukraine and its effects, topics such as cyber security and energy security will be discussed, as well as questions regarding the European security- and defense cooperation.

Once a year, the MYL alumni meet at different locations to exchange ideas with the local foreign policy community and with each other on topics of current and regional importance. This provides an opportunity for both young and established leaders to cultivate their personal and professional contacts and broaden horizons. Previous Annual Meetings have already taken place in Berlin, Rabat, Washington, D.C., Warsaw, Moscow, Madrid, and most recently in New York.

The project is a cooperation between the MSC and the Körber Foundation, which gives young experts and future decision-makers in the field of foreign and security policy - including representatives of government institutions, parliaments, think tanks, media and companies - the opportunity to participate in the important debates at the security conference and contribute with their insights. The more than 300 Young Leaders alumni now include numerous current and former ministers, members of parliament, newspaper editors, entrepreneurs and high-ranking officers. They come from Germany, selected NATO member and partner states, and many other countries.
