"Munich Young Leaders" in New York City for 10th Anniversary Meeting
From September 19 to 21, a few days before the opening of the 74th UN General Assembly, alumni of the Munich Young Leaders program will gather in New York City for their Annual Meeting.
From September 19 to 21, the MSC and Körber-Stiftung are hosting the Annual Meeting of its Munich Young Leaders alumni network. This year’s reunion in New York City marks the 10th anniversary of the MYL program. When the MSC and Körber-Stiftung established the initiative ten years ago, they envisioned a platform for young experts to engage in open dialogue with high-ranking political figures, to strengthen their networks, and to exchange new and creative ideas in the field of foreign and security policy. Today, the Munich Young Leaders network comprises more than 250 alumni from over 60 countries, among them ministers, members of parliament, commanding officers and leading political experts and thinkers from some of the world's most distinguished institutions.
The Annual Meetings take place in various locations around the world. At each meeting, MYL alumni meet with representatives of the local foreign policy community to discuss issues of current and regional importance. Previous reunions have been held in Berlin, Rabat, Washington, D.C., Warsaw, Moscow, and, most recently, in Madrid. The meeting in New York City takes place just a few days before the opening of the 74th UN General Assembly. It will gather more than 100 MYL for discussions about the current state and future of multilateral cooperation. During the three-day program, MYL alumni will meet and discuss with a number of senior experts and decision-makers. Among them are the Executive Director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate, Michèle Coninsx, the President of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly, María Fernanda Espinosa-Garcés, the UN Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, and the German Ambassador to the United States, Christoph Heusgen. Highlights of the three-day program will be a fireside chat with former US Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger and a gala dinner hosted by the MSC at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
"Multilateralism is Dead. Long Live Multilateralism!"
At the meeting in New York City, the MSC and Körber-Stiftung will also launch a new report on the current state and future of multilateral cooperation, authored by Munich Young Leaders alumni. Titled "Multilateralism is Dead. Long Live Multilateralism!", the report illuminates best practices for multilateral cooperation and offers regional perspectives on the prospects of and challenges to the multilateral order. It will be launched at the United Nations Headquarters on September 19. The report will be available to download via the MSC website and at munich-young-leaders.org.
