Climate change is one of the greatest existential threats to humanity, evidenced in recent years by an amplification of global warming, as well as increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters such as floods, fires, and storms. The urgent development and implementation of solutions is required before the economic, social and health impacts become too severe and ultimately irreparable.
Although progress is being made, challenges persist. Global energy demand continues to grow, and around 850 million people still lack access to electricity. In many cases decarbonizing solutions are economically still unfavorable. Energy security and access to energy need to be addressed, requiring geopolitical as well as technological solutions. But even as technology advances and interconnectedness increases, a range of new challenges emerges. With greater reliance on digitalization, physical and cyber security for energy assets is increasingly a concern.
Climate change, energy access and energy security are in the spotlight of international attention. As a global energy company at the forefront of the energy transformation, focused on energizing society in a decarbonizing, efficient and affordable way, Siemens Energy is ideally placed to partner with the Munich Security Conference.Christian Bruch•Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Energy
