The Middle East Consultation Group in Amman and Cairo
Between May 26 and 29, 2025, the Middle East Consultation Group convened for confidential discussions in Amman, Jordan, and Cairo, Egypt. The meetings aimed to deepen dialogue with senior political decision-makers and regional experts, with a focus on pressing challenges facing the Middle East.
The MECG brings together current and former high-level policymakers and experts from the region and beyond to address urgent challenges in the Middle East. Following previous meetings in Doha, Munich, New Delhi, and Washington, DC, the group gathered in Amman and Cairo to gain insights on how to contribute to peace and stability in the region. Jordan and Egypt — two key actors in regional mediation and integration— were central to the discussions.
The meetings in both capitals enabled in-depth exchanges on perspectives regarding ongoing crises and the potential of diplomatic openings. Discussions also addressed the role of public opinion in political decision-making, the shifting influence of regional powers in the context of global change, and the impact of external actors such as the United States, the European Union, China, and other international partners.
Through direct dialogue with representatives from Jordan and Egypt, the group gained valuable insights that will inform its ongoing internal discussions. The insights gathered during the consultations will be compiled into a comprehensive report, which will be released at the beginning of 2026.
