On June 15, 2020, the Munich Security Conference (MSC) hosted a Digital Conversation between high-level political, economic and academic experts from Europe, Russia and the United States. In a small, confidential discussion, the participants exchanged their views on the Russian-transatlantic relationship in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Bob Zoellick, former President of the World Bank, Kirill Dmitriev, Chief Executive Officer of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, and Nathalie Tocci, Director of the Istituto Affari Internazionali, delivered short introductory remarks.
The event focused on key challenges as well as opportunities for deepening cooperation. As a starting point for improving trust and fostering mutual understanding, the value of people-to-people dialogue was highlighted. Additionally, the discussion touched upon the broader strategic implications of an increasingly bipolar world order – for Europe, Russia and the United States, as well as their relations among each other.
In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the Munich Security Conference has created a new event format: the MSC Digital Conversations.
