Vice Chairman Boris Ruge Returns to the German Foreign Service

After three and half years, Boris Ruge's term as Vice Chairman of the Munich Security Conference is ending on March 31, 2023. Ambassador Ruge is returning to the German foreign service and will be taking up a posting in the summer.

Ruge was the first Vice Chairman of the MSC. During his time with the MSC, he worked on traditional security and defense issues, but also developed new issue areas such as food security. In 2021 and 2022/23 he coordinated reports on transatlantic China policy in cooperation with the Aspen Strategy Group and MERICS. He contributed to building MSC's cooperation with German and international members of parliament. Over the past years, Ruge shaped and moderated many MSC events and played an important role with regard to MSC publications as a member of the editorial board.

MSC Chairman Ambassador Christoph Heusgen said: "Boris Ruge has made a valuable contribution to the further development of MSC with his commitment and impressive knowledge. His remarkable network of contacts and his political intuition were a great asset to us. He will leave a gap at the Munich Security Conference – we wish him all the best for his next endeavors."
