MSC to Host Several Events in the US over the Summer
The Munich Security Conference (MSC) will host a number of events in the United States over the coming weeks, both in the margins of the anniversary summit of NATO as well as at the Republican National Convention and at the Democratic National Convention.
- On July 9, 2024, just before the official proceedings of the NATO Summit kick-off, the MSC Security Innovation Board will host a session on the potential pitfalls of defence innovation in partnership with the NATO Innovation Fund.
- On July 11, just as the NATO Summit is drawing to a close, the MSC will host a High-Level Roundtable on Transatlantic Defense in partnership with the Atlantic Council to discuss how to future-proof NATO. To set the scene, Leonard Schütte has just published an MSC Opinion on burden-sharing which can be found on our website.
- On July 16, the President of the MSC’s Foundation Council, Wolfgang Ischinger, will host a reception on the first evening of this year’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. The event is supported by the American Friends of the MSC.
- On August 19, the MSC will host a reception on the first evening of this year’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The event will be co-hosted with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and supported by the American Friends of the MSC.
The Security Innovation Board Session on the Pitfalls of Defence Innovation on July 9
Together with the NATO Innovation Fund, the Munich Security Conference (MSC) will assemble prominent decision-makers and defence innovators to discuss the role of innovation at this year’s NATO Summit as well as to take a moment to dive deeper into the potential pitfalls of defence innovation, such as unnecessary duplications or harmful distractions. Just ahead of the session, the MSC will facilitate the inaugural meeting of the Council on the Future which was founded during the MSC 2024 to promote a thoughtful stewardship of technology. The Council is co-led by Eva Maydell, Member of the European Parliament, and includes a number of high-level personalities and renowned experts.
The Transatlantic Defense Roundtable on July 11
On the occasion of NATO's 75th birthday, the MSC will host a high-level roundtable on transatlantic defence and how to future-proof the Alliance for the next 75 years. This roundtable will lay the intellectual groundwork for the upcoming MSC Roundtable on European Security in Kyiv, where participants will discuss matters of Ukrainian security more in depth. The event in Washington, DC is held in partnership with the Atlantic Council and will be followed by a reception and a concert in the Library of Congress.
The Receptions at the National Conventions on July 16 and August 19
The MSC, supported by the American Friends of the MSC, will hold receptions at both National Conventions to make the case for a strong transatlantic partnership and foster its network of friends in both parties.
