MSC Hosts Munich Leaders Meeting in Bucharest, Romania (November 27-29, 2022)
From November 27 to 29, the Munich Security Conference (MSC) will host this year’s second Munich Leaders Meeting (MLM) in Bucharest, Romania. Together with the Foreign Ministry of Romania, the MSC will assemble around 75 high-level participants ahead of the NATO Foreign Ministerial to discuss the effects of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and other major security challenges in the region. A read-out of the MLM will be published in form of a Munich Security Brief with an updated transatlantic to-do list.
The MLM in Bucharest
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine marks a "Zeitenwende," or watershed moment, in world politics. In response, the transatlantic partners have shown remarkable unity in opposing Russia’s assault, supporting Ukraine, and in strengthening NATO. Yet, the brutal war on Ukraine is raging on, and its effects are felt across the globe.
Building on its recent MLM in Washington, DC, the MSC is hosting the meeting in Bucharest in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. Together they will welcome a diverse group of around 75 high-ranking participants, including government and military representatives, parliamentarians and representatives from civil society and the private sector. Among the participants are the President of Romania Klaus Werner Iohannis, the OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid, NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Christopher G. Cavoli as well as the Belarusian Opposition Leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
The MLM in Bucharest is supported by the Boston Consulting Group as well as by BMW, the MSC’s Mobility Partner and the Deutsche Welle, the MSC’s Media Partner. In addition, the MSC works with a variety of other organizations, including the New Strategy Center, to host side-events on topics ranging from the Western Balkans to energy security in the Black Sea region.
Following the MLM in Bucharest, the MSC will publish a Munich Security Brief to provide a detailed read-out of the event with an updated transatlantic to-do list. More information about the transatlantic to-do list and our publications can be found on the MSC website.
